After The Regatta.

Hey Victor! Just a note to pass on to the brass at AYC. I wish to express gratitude for their commitment to excellence in yacht racing. I race a circuit during the season, and since I began Hobie Class Racing in 2002, I've had the pleasure of visiting a large number of venues and Yacht Clubs. As you well know, some are better than others. Regardless of being fortunate enough to have won my class at Lake Pleasant, I was moreso impressed with the professional manner in which the races were conducted, and the disposition of those who performed duties on the water. I rate them among the very best. Clearly a no frills club that is dedicated to serve those who have a passion for racing sailboats. A true 'Get It Done' ethic. I witnessed no showboating or grandstanding by the committee(which is something I commonly see elsewhere). I also witnessed care and concern for the sailors on the water and a great effort to pull off a number of races in difficult conditions. Very Well Done! I hope to visit Lake Pleasant again and enjoy this most excellent sailboat racing venue.
Many Thanks, Gordo Bagley

Since the AYC stated hosting the Leukemia Cup Regatta in Arizona, we have raised over $580,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In years past, the Regatta was part of the AYC's 'Birthday Regatta'. For 2017, the Leukemia Cup IS the regatta and the Birthday tradition will be carried on throughout the weekend.

The real Hero of the Leukemia Cup Regatta is the team that raises the most money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Winning races is fantastic, but nothing beats knowing you played a part is helping someone win their race for life.

The 2017 edition includes several new fleets, new courses and multiple 'shoreside' events. As of July 2016, Fleet 42, the only mixed-make multihull fleet in Arizona joined the AYC so we expect a much larger than usual catamaran presence. With Hobies, NACRA's, G-Cats, BiMares, SolCats and other multihulls from Arizona, Nevada, California and other states, this could be the biggest and fastest fleet in the Regatta.

Mock Monohulls Spin

Also 'New for 2017' (and in the planning stages) will be a SUP (Stand Up Paddle) event as well as a Junior Regatta in conjunction with the Arizona Sailing Foundation. SUP is the fastest growing segment in water-sports and the juniors... one day will sail keel boats and catamarans!.

The 2017 Leukemia Cup Regatta is organized by an 'all volunteer' committee of AYC board members and club members.
Chris Smith, Chairman and Junior Staff Commodore
Bruce Andress, Commodore
Victor Felice, Vice Commodore
John Riddell, Racing Fleet Captain
Wendy Larsen, PRO
Dave Christensen, Timing and Scoring
Jo and Mike Grijalva, Auctions
Scott Agan (Multihulls)
Marshall Williams, Marketing
Tony CHapman, Treasurer

The Committee will include many other members and grow accordingly as events, activities and the overall makeup of a big event takes shape. If you are interested in volunteering, contact us!.
